Niels Mertens

Niels Mertens is PhD researcher at KU Leuven, Centre for Shared Leadership. Shared leadership and releasing control sometimes feel like taking a leap of faith. However, sharing responsibilities is an important motivator for employees, which will not only enhance their mental well-being but also improves their effectiveness. During this presentation, insights will be shared from the sports context on how to best implement a structure of shared leadership in practice. Based on practical experiences, not only within the sports context, but also from various leadership trajectories within organizations, goal is to provide you with practical advice, e.g., on which leadership roles employees can fulfill, who is best assigned to each of these roles, and how the leadership potential within your team can be maximized. In this way, we hope that you do not only become inspired to implement a structure of shared leadership in your own organization, but also that you get hands-on guidelines that will help you to succeed.
